Linking words loved by a Belgian waffler

Write awesome long copy using these linking words

If your long copy is too factual and pure nonsense, it’ll be super boring. If you want to keep your reader engaged, you need to step out of your business writing mindset and become a story teller.

So how do you take a list of benefits and dry boring facts, and turn them into a story that keeps the reader engaged?

Any great copywriter will tell you – you use linking words

Linking words are the tools that create flow and help you write snappy copy. They are the words that will show your reader you’ve used a professional copywriter (or that you are one), rather than writing like an amateur.

Are these magical words? Not at all. They are words you would use every day. But when you place them throughout your copy, they become magical in encouraging the reader to keep reading.

So here are some of my favourite linking words you should use in your copy:

  • Add more info:
also, plus, then, that includes, not only that but
  • Explain further:
because, actually, that’s why, which means that
  • Look from a different point of view:
although, but, however, still, mind you
  • Move to another idea:
    again, while, remember, since
  • Introductory words:
new, only, for just a week, now
  • Make things sound easy:
all you have to do, you’ll also benefit from, discover how, imagine
  • Share experiences:
most people, sometimes, it’s happened to me, some of us
  • Reassure people:
you can’t lose, we’re the best at, our money-back offer
  • Re-state your argument:
    Finally, in summary, so, therefore

And of course, don’t forget to end your copy with a call to action. Without a call to action, people won’t know what you expect them to do. Seriously. You need to spell it out. Try these: to book, to find out more, ring or email, for a fast response…

Try weaving these linking words into your copy and see how much better it flows. Remember I offer a copywriting review service. You have a go, and I’ll polish it for you.
